2005 Y|X Conference
Friday, March 25, 2005 - Detroit, Michigan
Presented by the American Studies Program of Wayne State University
and the Rushton Endowment
Submission Deadline: February 18, 2005
"The World is Not America: Re-Membering Politics and the Arts"
The American Studies Program at Wayne State University invites submissions for
its fifth-annual Y|X (Youth|Xchange) interdisciplinary Graduate/Undergraduate
conference, to be held on the campus of Wayne State University on Friday afternoon,
March 25, 2005.
The theme of this year’s conference is "The World is Not America:
Re-Membering Politics and the Arts" and we are eager to welcome students
from various disciplines throughout the University, both graduate and undergraduate,
to participate in this interesting discussion. Students from other
areas universities are also invited to submit abstracts for consideration. We
are particularly interested in offering undergraduate students an opportunity
to present their own intellectual work in an academic and formal setting. This
conference will enable undergraduate and graduate student scholars to participate
in an interdisciplinary conference that investigates how "American Studies"
can consider a world that is not primarily American, how this non-American world
can think about America, or how we can escape the notion of "America"
completely. While the theme of the conference emphasizes politics and
the arts, we hope that participants will also engage with the ways in which
various other disciplines can be political and/or considered arts.
