Degree Requirements

Wayne State University's Admission Requirements: See the general requirements for undergraduate admission to the University.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
The Certificate Program requires satisfactory completion of no fewer than 12 and no more than 18 credits, the total to be determined by each student in consultation with the Director of American Studies.  Students will take two core AS courses (totaling 8 credit hours); the remaining credit hours will consist of graduate-level electives specific to each student's interests and plan of work.

Grade point average requirements follow the Graduate School's minimum requirements for graduation.Students will normally enroll full-time and complete their course work in one year; however, part-time students may be accommodated in consultation with the Director of American Studies.  The Certificate may accompany completion of Masters or Doctoral degrees, but is not dependent on such completion.  In cases where students are enrolled in MA or PhD programs, 9 hours of certificate course work may be applied to the degree, dependent on approval by the student's major advisor.  Usual Graduate School time limits for completion apply.
